Good Divorce Week

Good Divorce Week is a Resolution campaign that highlights what a constructive, child-focused separation can look like.

At The Divorce Surgery, that’s not limited to one week of the year. Our One Couple One Lawyer model is designed so that every week can be Good Divorce Week, helping couples separate fairly, safely and with as little conflict as possible.

In the short video below, our Co-Founder Samantha Woodham talks about five themes that can help make a divorce “good”.

What makes a “good divorce”?

When we talk about a “good divorce”, we’re really talking about five key things.

Fair
A fair outcome is one both of you can live with and understand, even if it’s not exactly what either of you hoped for. Knowing how a judge would view your situation can make it much easier to move on.

Safe
A joint process only works if it is safe. Where there is domestic abuse, safeguarding concerns or a serious power imbalance, the priority has to be protection and the right legal route for you and your children.

On budget
Legal costs shouldn’t undermine your ability to rebuild your life. Fixed fees and clear budgeting help you stay in control and avoid the anxiety of open-ended hourly rates.

Conflict free
Some disagreement is inevitable when a relationship ends, but the process itself shouldn’t inflame the conflict. A good divorce focuses on respectful, forward-looking conversations rather than point-scoring.

Kind
Kindness matters, even at the end of a relationship. Being kind to yourself and to each other can shape the legacy of your separation for you and your children.

If you’d like to explore whether our One Couple One Lawyer model could help you separate in a fair, safe and child-focused way, you can book a guidance call with our team.
