What About Giving Up A Career?

Life often throws up some hard choices. It is extremely common for one person in a couple to take a step back in their own career so the other can focus on theirs, particularly when the demands of children come into play.

But perspectives on these decisions can change when viewed through the prism of separation or divorce. In our experience, if couples aren’t careful, they can quickly become quite polarised, so the sooner you each engage with how a court would look at this, the better.

There is a body of case law which has built up around what the lawyers refer to as ‘relationship-generated disadvantage’. In this course we will explore that case law, so you can see the types of decisions, and reasoning, which has been applied to other families.

The aim is that by the end of the course you will have an understanding of how decisions about relationship-generated disadvantage are approached by the courts, so that you can start to consider how this may apply in your case. And if you think it does, and you want to explore it further, we’ve set out your best next steps.

This course remains live for 90 days from purchase, but we’ve included course materials with the full text of the course and links to all the case law, research and statutes, which you can download and keep after the course itself has expired.
