‘Breadmaker’ Or ‘Homemaker’ – Does It Matter?


It sounds obvious, but it took until White v White in 2001 for the courts to spell out that discrimination as between spouses – say the ‘breadwinner’ on one hand and the ‘homemaker’ on the other – has no place in family law. So the contributions made by each are in principle equally valid and of equal relevance in the assessment of what’s fair.
