No Fault Divorce To Be Introduced On 6th April 2022

BREAKING NEWS: No Fault Divorce to be introduced on 6th April 2022.

Ministers have today announced that the Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Act 2020, which will allow married couples to divorce without assigning blame, will come into force on 6th April 2022.

This date is later than originally indicated, to allow time for the necessary IT changes to be made to HMCTS’s online divorce systems. However, the 6th April is now fixed as a matter of Parliamentary record.

As our co-founder, Samantha Woodham says ‘It is fantastic to know that finally we have a date. So many of the separating couples we see have no interest in ascribing fault. They have both come to terms with the fact that their marriage has run its course and just want to move on fairly and with dignity. Enabling them to petition for divorce together, without giving any reasons why, starts the process as they mean to go on. At the end of the day, it is absolutely no one’s business but their own why their marriage is ending, and it’s so good to see that couples will be able, relatively soon, to preserve the privacy of that decision.’
