Thank You Gwyneth! Because Divorce Doesn’t Need To Be A Battle

This is a beautiful essay written by Gwyneth Paltrow about her experience of consciously uncoupling from Chris Martin. It is well worth a read, whether you are going through a separation yourself, or just want to support someone who is.

Having once been derided for using the term, Gwyneth acknowledges now it is the preferred approach:

“Conscious uncoupling/separation/divorce, whatever you want to call it, has now permeated the break-up culture. Instead of people approaching me with, “Why did you say that?”, they now approach me with, “How do you do that?””

That is absolutely our experience too. The many separating couples we see have no interest in a battle. They just want to navigate their divorce fairly and with respect, and without damaging irretrievably the parts of their relationship which should survive, particularly their co-parenting one.

We also relate to Gwyneth’s experience when she states “When I, or we at Goop, introduce something unfamiliar, there’s a big reaction, before gradual cultural adoption. Although at times it has been painful, especially early on, I have come to love this role in the cycle and the curiosity that drives it.”

It is no longer a shifting or changing culture. It HAS changed, and for the BETTER.
