Why The Way We Describe Family Lawyers Has To Change

Our co-founders Samantha and Harry have written an article (‘Less rottweiler, more golden retriever’) in the latest edition of Counsel magazine calling for a complete re-think on the way we describe family lawyers, and what attributes we choose to value the most. Ask anyone getting divorced: they want the lawyers who can get them, as quickly and painlessly as possible, to a fair solution. So why is the profession set up to amplify and reward the cases which fight, ideally to the highest courts?

As Sam and Harry say:

“Language matters. But it’s more than just choosing different words. It’s easy to define yourself as a golden retriever and not a rottweiler. If we really want radical reform of Family Justice, we need to make settlement, and decent language, the pinnacle of achievement in the directories, reported judgments and the profession as a whole.”
